About Me
I joined the Unification Church of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon in 1977, November 30th, at Dunbar Manor House in Dunbar just South of Edinburgh in Scotland, UK. I found out afterwards that I was considered an unlikely candidate to join because I had a well paid regular job in the electricity supply industry and was 26 years old. But, earlier that same year, my elder brother had been killed in a car crash that I realized could have just as easily been me and set me on a path to find out what, if any, was the purpose of life and if there was an existence after death. I was, at the time, in the process of investigating Buddhism through reading of ‘Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance’ and, also, influenced by the Beatles and their leanings toward Krishna. I had thought that death resulted in non existence and I was, as a consequence, scared of death which I recognized could not be avoided.
I bought a ‘One World’ Moonie pamphlet at the end of July from an oriental looking guy when I’d gone out to buy some cigarettes in Coatbridge near Glasgow. It was late, dark and raining but the guy seemed unfazed and that impressed me. The content seemed rational too and when he invited me to attend a ‘two-day workshop’ to introduce a new teaching I said I’d go although it was the other side of Scotland to where I was currently living and working. The people I met there and the logical presentation ‘blew’ my mind. I came away with the realization that Jesus should not have been rejected and murdered, and that we were now in the time of the Second Advent of Christ. My work colleagues were really surprised to each receive a booklet, ‘The New Future of Christianity’ from a speech by Rev. Moon and that I’d handed in my notice to quit so that i could join this group! My parents and younger brother were pretty shocked too. My parents all but disowned me.
That’s now more than 40 years ago. In 2012 I thought that Christians have missed the Lord at the Second Advent because that's when Rev Moon left this Earth but I’ve now come to understand that, in a very real sense, so did I. In this blog site I want to share with you what I’ve learned along the way and hear your comments and criticisms. Let’s check this out and see how it holds up.
Thank You for visiting my blog website. I’m looking forward to hearing your comments, observations and critique.
